MINGZE YAN / REECE

I’m Reece.
I make things.

From a first circuit
to something you can use.

I’m the founder of Abitat, backed by MiraclePlus. I work across electronics, code, and product design to bring ideas into everyday life.

01 / THE WORK

Selected work.
Physical & digital.

Instruments, tools, and experiments.
Here’s what I’ve been working on.

PageBetween reading screen with a short passage and page indicator03 / Software Open source
Reading × SoftwareiOS app in development

PageBetween

An iOS reading app for exploring books through source-grounded explanations and discussion.

Explore project

SwiftUI · EPUB / PDF · AI

Stay with the idea.

PageBetween makes nonfiction reading an active conversation. Import an EPUB or PDF, choose a reading depth, explore a passage and return to its original context. Original text, summaries and translations retain distinct identities.

  • EPUB and PDF import with source references
  • Adjustable reading depth and passage-level discussion
  • Reading progress, reflection and local notes

Open source under the MIT license.

Abitat Workspace

An iPhone control surface for coding sessions running on a Mac.

Explore project

iPhone · Local host · Encrypted relay

Your workbench, within reach.

Abitat Workspace lets the phone act as a window into a Mac-based coding workflow. The Mac owns execution and project state, while the iPhone handles pairing, conversations and remote control.

  • Phone-to-Mac pairing and session control
  • Local ownership of project and conversation state
  • Relay and direct network connection options

Mini CNC

A desktop CNC project spanning mechanical CAD, motion systems and control electronics.

Explore project

Mechanical CAD · Motion control

Building the tools to build.

A desktop machine developed through mechanical layout studies and control-system research. The project brings together a three-axis structure, linear motion components and the electronics needed to coordinate them.

  • Three-axis mechanical and spindle layout
  • Linear rails, ball screws and motor integration
  • Controller and firmware research

Preview intentionally pixelated. Design details remain confidential.

E-Ink Calendar

An electronic paper calendar with a companion app and a browser-based display simulator.

Explore project

E-paper · ESP32 · Bluetooth

A quieter way to see your day.

An exploration of information that can stay visible without demanding attention. Firmware, a Bluetooth companion app and a browser simulator support the development of a tall electronic paper calendar display.

  • Date and agenda display layouts
  • Bluetooth configuration and synchronization
  • Display rendering and refresh development

Shown: a display simulator. The hardware remains in development.

Smart KeyB

A compact three-key keyboard with configurable Mac app shortcuts.

Explore project

STM32 · USB HID · macOS

Three keys. A shorter path.

Smart KeyB turns frequently used actions into physical shortcuts. A three-key STM32 device sends USB HID hotkeys, while a macOS helper maps them to applications. App mappings can be changed without reflashing the keyboard.

  • Three-key embedded keyboard firmware
  • USB HID shortcuts and key handling
  • A macOS launcher and settings app

A table worth coming back to.

A private-room poker tournament for two to six players. A shared room code brings the table together, while a server-authoritative game engine handles betting, all-ins, side pots and showdown.

  • Private rooms and shareable join codes
  • Real-time tournament state and hand evaluation
  • Account, wallet and credit-ledger integration

London Home

An interactive Three.js study of a London home, built from visual references.

Explore project

Three.js · 3D interaction

A place, reconstructed in code.

A browser-based spatial study that turns photographs and video references into an explorable model. Preset views, a cutaway and a walking mode make it possible to examine room relationships and furniture placement.

  • Connected rooms and furniture geometry
  • Walking, cutaway and preset camera views
  • Lighting controls and reference comparison

An approximate spatial study with unmeasured dimensions; not a surveyed architectural model.

02 / THE PERSON

Hi, I’m Mingze.
You can call
me Reece.

I like understanding how things work.
Building them is how I find out.

I studied physics at Imperial College London. Now I’m building Abitat, backed by MiraclePlus, where my work spans physical products and the software around them.

I work on the whole experience: the electronics, the firmware, the app, and how it feels to use. Alongside Abitat, I make smaller projects around reading, poker, and places I care about.
